Learning Ocean Conservation with Reeformers

JIS Students Plant 50 Corals in Malalayang in Collaboration with Reeformers to Support Marine Conservation

Malalayang, April 23, 2025 — As part of their Extended Study Program (ESP), middle school students from Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) and @msnaganaga teamed up with Reeformers for a hands-on coral restoration activity in Malalayang. The students successfully planted 50 baby corals, contributing directly to efforts to restore and protect the region’s marine ecosystems.

During the visit, the Reeformers team shared vital information about coral reefs, their role in supporting ocean biodiversity, and the environmental threats they face. The students then learned how to attach coral fragments to artificial reef structures.

This field-based experience allowed students to go beyond classroom learning and take real action in support of ocean health. By participating directly in restoration efforts, they gained a practical understanding of marine conservation and the importance of preserving ecosystems for future generations.

“We’re grateful for the passion and energy these students brought to the project. They’ve taken their first step as young ocean stewards,” said a representative from Reeformers.

Through this meaningful collaboration, JIS students not only contributed to reef recovery but also became part of a growing movement to protect the ocean—one coral at a time.
