Nelson Uada on TVRI’s Nyiur Menyapa

The Nyiur Menyapa program on TVRI interviewed Nelson Uada, a prominent marine conservation practitioner who held many leadership position in Indonesia’s Diving Community about community empowerment around Malalayang beach.

Malalayang coastal area has experienced many coral reefs degradation since 2005. Since then, individuals and local communities have been independently participating in ocean conservation efforts. Nelson collaborated with Reeformers to manage a coral transplantation site at Malalayang Beach. This initiative has many positive domino effects that benefit the local community and Indonesia’s coastal communities. Increased fisheries production, tourism activities, and a better awareness in environmental knowledge can all be achieved through coral transplantation that involves youth participation.
