Our marine expert @yasher_sakita has been doing a research on whale shark in Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi. He sent us some photos and video of his encounter with these 2 gentle giants while he was paddleboarding this morning 🏄♂️. Because Indonesia is located in the coral triangle, our country is blessed with an ocean with rich biodiversity.
Whale sharks 🦈, as filter feeders, play a pivotal role in ocean 🌊 biodiversity by regulating plankton and small fish 🐠 populations, which in turn affects the entire marine food web🕸️. They are considered keystone 🔑 species, attracting other marine life through their feeding behavior. Conservation efforts to protect whale sharks and their habitats are essential not only for their survival but also for maintaining the overall health 🩺🌡️and biodiversity 🧬of our oceans.
