Explore a glimpse of our August 2026 coral reef monitoring journey, where the reef continues to show encouraging signs of growth and recovery despite the ongoing challenges of global coral bleaching. Today, our coral gardens are home to 3,000 established wild coral colonies and support an increasingly diverse marine ecosystem, with 264 marine species recorded across the reef.
Through regular monitoring and maintenance, the team continues to track coral growth, care for restoration structures, and support the reef’s natural recovery. The latest monitoring has recorded 1,080 new coral recruits alongside 33,888 new coral saplings, reflecting the continued regeneration and development of the coral gardens.
Beyond ecological restoration, the reef is also creating positive impacts for surrounding communities, with 200 householdsbenefiting from the growing ecosystem. The established coral colonies are estimated to incorporate around 145–430 kg of carbon per yearinto their coral skeletons, based on approximately 3,000 established colonies averaging 40 cm in size.
The growing number of coral recruits, saplings, and marine species offers an encouraging glimpse of a reef becoming healthier and more resilient over time. Each new coral, returning species, and thriving restoration structure represents another step toward restoring the balance of our oceans.
Reeformers’ progress in the past few years has been underscored by the involvement of local East Asian idol fan-clubs in coral reef conservation. In April and July, fanclubs of idols Ren Jia Lun and Kim Bum, respectively, supported their local marine ecosystems by adopting a combined 26 corals, showing admirable environmental stewardship in the name of their favorite artist.
